Emotional Health and Wellbeing Enhanced Healthy School

Dear Parents/Carers,

St Helen’s is currently working towards becoming an Emotional Health and Wellbeing Enhanced Healthy School.

To achieve this award we aim to raise awareness of all areas of health including nutrition, exercise and emotional health and wellbeing.

There are many elements to this project including:

The Daily Mile- This has a simple aim, to help children get fit by running or walking for 15 minutes a day and sees benefits such as;
Increasing levels of fitness
Improved behaviour within classrooms

Better eating and sleeping habits
Raised levels of confidence, resilience and relationship building in children

Emotional Health and Wellbeing Plays - BTEC year one Students from South Essex College will perform a play on social media /cyberbullying with an emphasis on emotional health to years 5 and 6

Karma Kids - (Active Life) is a five week programme delivered to Year 3 using Mindfulness & Relaxation techniques.
The five weekly sessions will look at
• Relaxation & Meditation methods.
• Dealing with emotions including tension & anxiety.
• Counting breath to develop calmness.
• Mindfulness
• Positive thinking & Self esteem

Parent workshop about Sleep (Date to be confirmed)

Training delivered by ‘Millpond’ :
To understand children’s sleep cycles, sleep needs and sleep problems.
To understand the importance of good sleep.
To learn techniques to improve children’s sleep.

Parent workshop about Healthy lunch boxes (Date to be confirmed)

Workshop provided by public health England to give ideas and support to provide healthy, nutritious, tasty food in lunch boxes

Emotional Health and Mental Wellbeing Strategies using resources from the Anna Freud Centre website and the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust website
